Robber raids police dorm
A knife-wielding robber picked the wrong target in Japan when he burst into a police dormitory.
The 26-year-old demanded cash but instead found himself surrounded by police officers, reports Mainichi Shimbun.
Police suspect the robber may have intended to rob a Japan Railways office next to the police dormitory in Haramachi.
"Our uniforms look pretty similar to those used by JR, so he probably got us mixed up," a police officer at the scene said.
The arrested man told police: "I didn't really care where I could go, but never dreamed I'd end up where I did."

Police refused to say exactly how many people had been arrested, but said at least eight people, mostly aged between 18 and 20, had been questioned.
Those arrested have been charged with vandalism and breach of the peace.
The gang's internet site has now disappeared from the web, local media reported.

Ex-cop banana flasher
GREENWICH, Conn. -- A former Stamford police officer has been charged with lewd conduct involving a toy banana. Arthur Bertana, 62, who had been on probation for lewd conduct more than four years ago, was arrested Saturday after police said he placed a toy banana in his pants and flashed people.
Bertana was charged with breach of peace and interfering with a police officer.
"Over a span of time, there were several reports of a subject wearing extremely tight pants with an obvious bulge stuffed down his pants," Sgt. Roger Petrone Jr. said Wednesday.
Bertana would allegedly greet passersby on the busy street while trying to draw attention, Petrone said. At times, he placed a bag in front of his pants, then moved it and show the bulge, he said.
"It was a yellow, plush, child's toy banana," Petrone said. "It had a smiley face on it."
Bertana was released on a $5,000 bond for a March 21 appearance in Stamford Superior Court in Stamford.

Man admits to grenade in luggage
A man who flew to the UK intending to be a suicide bomber has admitted carrying a hand grenade in his luggage.
Hazil Rahaman-Alan boarded a BA jet in Caracas and the grenade was flown to Gatwick in his case in the hold.
The Venezuelan, 39, admitted having a high explosive hand grenade with intent to endanger life in 2003.
But it was accepted he was not a terrorist and that his motives were obscure, the Old Bailey heard. Sentencing was adjourned until 20 May.
That was to allow for an up-to-date psychiatric report to be prepared. Rahaman-Alan was remanded in custody.
The Venezuelan was arrested when the grenade was found during a routine search on 13 February 2003.
The find closed the North Terminal at Gatwick and 40 flight departures were delayed.
Rahaman-Alan was questioned by anti-terrorist officers and charged under the Terrorism Act.
He told police he wanted to blow himself up in an open area to draw attention to the plight of others.
Interviewed after his arrest, Rahaman-Alan said "the grenade would be his microphone to the world", the court heard.
The charges were later changed to offences under the Explosives Act and the Aviation Act.
Nicholas Dean QC, prosecuting, said what Rahaman-Alan had planned to do and partly succeeded in doing "was highly dangerous and disruptive".
"In some respects he could not have done more to convince people he was a terrorist and had he carried out what he intended to do and died, it would have been assumed he was a terrorist and been acclaimed by or for some extremist cause, " he said.
Mr Dean also told the court the grenade could not have been used because the detonator had been removed. An expert concluded there was no risk from the explosives inside without the detonator.
Rahaman-Alan told police his plan had been "spontaneous".
He had gone to a poor area of Caracas where he bought the grenade from petty criminals. A week later he bought a return flight to Britain.
Mr Dean said: "There is nothing to suggest Mr Rahaman-Alan had any angst against the United Kingdom. He knew very little about this country."
When he checked in his backpack, he requested it should have a fragile sticker stuck on it and travel in the hold with other luggage.
During the flight, he had drawn attention to himself by moving around the aircraft and appearing to be nervous, said Mr Dean.
Mr Dean said he was "fortunately stopped" in a random check by a customs officer at Gatwick.

Cake robber returned once too often
A Chinese man was arrested after attempting to steal cakes at knifepoint three times in an hour from the same shop.
The 36-year-old burst into the cake shop at Changchun city, Jilin province, and told staff to give him some cakes.
"He came in with a knife and told us to freeze. Taking two cakes, he ran away," the shop manager told the Eastern Asia Economic News.
Considering the loss was so minor, the manager didn't call the police, but then, after only ten minutes, the robber returned and stole two more cakes.
This time, the manager called the police and officers were at the scene 30 minutes later when the man came back to the shop, asking staff to "load him with another two cakes".
At first, he told police he was a visitor and only spoke "foreign language", but he finally admitted he had just been hungry.

Thief steals only left shoes
OSLO (Reuters) - A thief who stole 25 shoes got a little less than he or she bargained for after realizing they were all for left feet.
The robber threw away the haul in disgust after breaking into a car in the Norwegian city of Bergen and finding a case full of women's shoes -- but no pairs. It belonged to a salesman who traveled with only one shoe of each type.

Baggage handling camel?
SYDNEY, Australia - Qantas Airways Ltd. on Friday suspended a baggage handler who was caught on video opening a passenger's bag which contained a camel costume, donning the head and wandering around the airport tarmac.
The costume's owner, David Cox, said he was waiting inside the terminal at Sydney Airport earlier this week when he glanced outside and saw the baggage handler wearing his camel head.
"I obviously was flabbergasted, my jaw dropped to the ground," Cox told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio on Friday.
He said he was shocked to realize that his luggage had been tampered with, and reported the incident to the airline.
Qantas Chief Executive Geoff Dixon said a security camera had recorded the baggage handler, whose name was not immediately available, opening the bag and trying on the camel head.
He said the baggage handler had been suspended and could be fired pending further investigation.
"We are acutely aware of heightened community concerns around security of baggage," Dixon said in a statement. "What has happened is completely unacceptable and is unacceptable to the vast majority of decent, hardworking Qantas employees."
